Average star voting: 4 ⭐ ( 70656 reviews)

Summary: A cervicogenic Headache (CGH) presents as unilateral pain that starts in the neck. It is a common chronic and recurrent headache that usually starts after neck movement. It usually accompanies a reduced range of motion (ROM) of the neck. It could be confused with a migraine, tension headache, or other primary headache syndromes. Diagnostic criteria must include all the following points: 1. Source of the pain must be in the neck and perceived in head or face. 2. Evidence that the pain can be attributed to the neck. It must have one of the following: demonstration of clinical signs that implicate a source of pain in the neck or abolition of a headache following diagnostic blockade of a cervical structure or its nerve supply using a placebo or other adequate controls. 3. Pain resolves within three months after successful treatment of the causative disorder or lesion.[1][2][3][4]

11. Manual therapies for cervicogenic headache: a systematic review – The Journal of Headache and Pain

Author: thejournalofheadacheandpain.biomedcentral.com

Date Submitted: 10/17/2019 10:46 AM

Average star voting: 5 ⭐ ( 12471 reviews)

Summary: This paper systematically reviewed randomized clinical trials (RCT) assessing the efficacy of manual therapies for cervicogenic headache (CEH). A total of seven RCTs were identified, i.e. one study applied physiotherapy ± temporomadibular mobilization techniques and six studies applied cervical spinal manipulative therapy (SMT). The RCTs suggest that physiotherapy and SMT might be an effective treatment in the management of CEH, but the results are difficult to evaluate, since only one study included a control group that did not receive treatment. Furthermore, the RCTs mostly included participant with infrequent CEH. Future challenges regarding CEH are substantial both from a diagnostic and management point of view.

12. Cervicogenic headache treated by acupuncture based on jin theory: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial – Trials

Author: trialsjournal.biomedcentral.com

Date Submitted: 12/16/2019 02:22 AM

Average star voting: 3 ⭐ ( 94304 reviews)

Summary: Numerous randomized trials involving acupuncture treatment for cervicogenic headache (CEH) have been conducted in recent years, but the evidence for its effectiveness is not clear. Hence, we designed a randomized trial to evaluate the efficacy and advantages of acupuncture for treating CEH. This is a parallel-design, two-arm, patient-assessor blinded, randomized, sham-controlled clinical trial. A total of 166 patients with CEH aged from 18 to 70 will be recruited and assigned randomly into a jin acupuncture group and a pseudo acupuncture group at a 1:1 ratio; they will receive 12 sessions of real acupuncture and sham acupuncture for 4 weeks, respectively, during the study. The primary outcomes are pain degree (PD) and pain rate (PR) calculated by the PainVision analyzer, as well as parameters detected by surface electromyography (SEMG). The secondary outcomes will be measured with the short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ), range of motion (ROM) of the neck, the Northwick Park Neck Pain Questionnaire (NPQ), the 36-item short-form Health Survey (SF-36), the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). Clinical assessments will be evaluated at baseline and in the fourth week as well as in the eighth and sixteenth weeks. Adverse events will be noted and recorded for the safety evaluation. This study will provide high-quality evidence of the value of acupuncture based on jin theory for treating CEH. Chinese Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR1800015316 . Registered on 22 March 2018. Updated version AMCTR-IOR-18000157 . Registered on 1 April 2018.
